And locked up in the cells of the old jail you’ll find six entries by primary schools, four from high schools and one from the SWR Cub Scouts.
There are ten entries by Kempsey TAFE students and all are worthy of your attention.
Now in it’s eighth year, with control transferred to the SWR Chamber of Commerce, Sculpture in the Gaol continues to draw crowds from across the Macleay Valley.
That’s especially true on the opening day, which was last Sunday. Yep. You missed it. But never mind, the exhibition runs until September 3, so there’s plenty of time to take a look, and also, cast your vote for your favourite sculpture.
It’s important to vote. The prizes will be awarded based solely on public voting.
Don’t be surprised if there some items missing when you visit. No, they haven’t been stolen.
As part of the festival, sculptures disappear from the Gaol and reappear at business in the South West Rocks township. So you can get a sneak peek without making the trip out to Arakoon.
You might feel the urge to relocate one of these sculptures to your own garden, and indeed many are for sale.
Prices range from bargain impulse buys, such as $50 for Gone Haywire by Norma Flint, right up to the eye-watering wallet-shattering $10,000 for Pod by Kylie Bowles.
However, if you decide to acquire Pod you will be getting your money’s worth and you’ll need a crane and a large flatbed truck to get it home.
There’s not much chance of this sculpture making a surprise appearance in town.
Intrigued? You’d better go directly to Gaol!
