Organised by Kempsey Shire Library and funded by the State Library, Mr Jones met with students at Kempsey West, Aldavilla, Willawarrin, Stuarts Point, Smithtown, Kinchela, Gladstone and Frederickton public schools to perform a series of music and comedy shows.
The aim of the visit was to promote literacy and reading as part of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) Book Week.
Every year, public libraries and schools devote a week to celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. This year’s theme — ‘Australia! Story Country’ — celebrated Australian children’s literature and the stories of all Australian people.
As part of this, students across the Macleay have been dressing up as their favourite literacy characters.
