For sixty years, the Crescent Head Country Club has been the heart and the soul of the village.
A place where families, neighbours and friends come together to celebrate life’s major milestones or just catch up over an amiable drink.
During 1956, the community was busy making plans. The site to build the club was fixed and plans to finance the building, furnish and equip the Club House were put in place.
By September 1956, the Licensing Court had granted Conditional Registration of the Club under the Liquor Act. The club was officially underway and it was ready to open in September 1958.
Local treasure Beb Ussher remembers the club when it first opened. Her husband Leo, was one of the original members who raised the money for the deposit to build the club. Each put forward £25 which meant additional financing could be raised and the project could go ahead.
“The club was only very small, with a little bar and the restaurant downstairs,” remembers Beb. “The food was excellent and we always felt so at home that we would always go there for every family occasion.”
The Club is the focal point of the local community and has a proud history of assisting to build and maintain important community infrastructure. The Club is a leader in the local community and has received recognition throughout the Club industry and wider community.
