The 8-year-old will be attending the BL’s Blast Off surfing competition at Palm, Avalon and Whale beaches in Sydney.
The surfing competition is for kids aged 14 and under and gives them the chance to experience competing on a big stage, whilst also learning and gaining a lot of advice from their heroes.
Event founder Barton Lynch will be there along with seven time surfing world champion Layne Beachley, Tom Carroll, Rabbit Bartholomew, Terry Richardson, Damien Hardman, Ozzie Wright, Richie Lovett and upcoming surfer Cooper Chapman.
The four-day competition will see Fairhurst face off against his toughest competition yet but his father Adam Fairhurst says his son won’t be concerned.
“Zeb isn’t scared of anything. He wants to take on the biggest waves and will want to perform at his best,” Fairhurst said.
Zeb currently competes once a month at Coffs Harbour Boardriders Club and often finishes in either first or second place.
“He enjoys competing as much as he can. We take him up the coast to face off against other kids his age and more often than not Zeb gets great results.”
The BL Blast Off event doesn’t just focus on the competition side, as a big aim is to keep the kids active, have fun, meet other like-minded kids and learn from the best.
Each competitor will surf at least twice before the elimination process begins and participants will be given tips at the conclusion of each round.
There are 10 different divisions with five age groups for girls and boys.
Zeb will be up against other kids who are under the age of 8 and he will look to gain experience and improve his skills.
Surfers who finish in the top six of their age group will receive prizes, whilst it will also give them an opportunity to be recognised.
The BL’s Blast Off will be held during school holidays beginning on Monday September 26 and concluding on Thursday September 29.
The event has been a huge success and has grown from having 100 kids the year it started to expecting over 300 surfers participating.
