Quinlan trains out of Kempsey and has a record of 10 wins and 1 loss to his name and believes the fight against Geale is a huge opportunity to open plenty of doors for him to take his career to the next level.

Boxers are judged on their wins and losses record but Quinlan suggests other components come into play.

“A lot of people take fights against weaker opponents to get their record up, they take the easy road,” Quinlan explained.

“I don’t want to do that, I have fought a lot of experienced fighters already, I believe in my training and I know I can get the win.”

In a massive boost for Quinlan’s chances of an upset, he has been a training and sparring partner of Anthony Mundine in the past and he will be in the gym with him in Sydney next week.

Mundine is renowned for his talk but his 54 fights experience and two fights against Geale, will be invaluable help for Quinlan.

“I’ve got my own style but he has shown me a few things that I can improve on and has been helpful with a lot of tips.”

The task will be even harder for Quinlan, as he will be fighting in Geale’s hometown and will not only have to face an experienced fighter who has a record of 31 wins and 4 losses but he will also be up against the crowd.

“They will definitely be cheering him on and motivating him to keep going but I will use the crowd to spur myself on as well.”

Geale has lost three of his last five fights against very strong opponents and is looking to get his career back on track and whilst Quinlan respects Geale’s accomplishments, it won’t mean anything once they pass the ropes.

“He was an idol of mine, he is a great fighter and has done some great things. In the ring it will be a different story though, I respect him but it will be business as usual for me.”

Quinlan says after the fight he will weigh up his options with trainer George Ptolemy and the rest of his team.
