Police from Mid North Coast Local Area Command have charged a former Catholic priest over alleged historical child sexual assaults between 1999 and 2006.

Following investigations, the 69-year-old former priest was arrested in Port Macquarie last Friday (September 24).
He was charged with sexual intercourse without consent (x2), attempt sexual intercourse without consent (x2), aggravated indecent assault (x2), incite act of indecency with victim under 16, commit act of indecency, and indecent assault (x2).
He was refused bail by police and appeared at Port Macquarie Bail Court on September 24.
He was later granted conditional bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on October 6.
Police will allege the charges relate to the sexual and indecent assault of a boy in Leichhardt and Kempsey between 1999 and 2006, when he was aged between 12 and 17.
Investigations are continuing.
