Our valley has a proud agricultural history which is also a vital part of the council’s economic development strategy. The Macleay is ideally placed to capitalise on the growing demand for quality boutique produce, and we already produce food and products that are sought after by chefs and connoisseurs.
The council actively works to promote opportunities to grow the valley’s agribusiness sector which can only create jobs and strengthen our local economy, and these awards recognise this.
The Macleay Valley Food Bowl Project will be a finalist at the State Business Awards in Sydney in late November. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain state-wide recognition for the potential offered by the Macleay Valley as a great alternative for agricultural producers.
New Deputy Mayor Elected
At last week’s council meeting, Cr Ashley Williams was unanimously voted Deputy Mayor for the first year of the new council term. This is the first time Ashley has held the role but having worked with him on council over the past four years, I’m confident he will be a great support as Deputy Mayor and will provide strong civic leadership within the Macleay Valley community.
A long-time resident of the Kempsey Shire, family man and active in local sporting groups, Ashley understands the issues that are important to the people of the Macleay and is keen to see our valley grow to provide opportunities for future generations.
At the first meeting of this council term, we officially welcomed to our team two new councillors, Mark Baxter and Leo Hauville. The first council meeting of a new term is important as it marks the start of the hard work that must begin if we are to build on the foundations of the last council to make a real difference for the Macleay Valley over the next four years.
