Racing NSW steward Drew Smith visited yesterday as part of his regular inspection to check how things are shaping up.He chatted to trainers and jockeys as he observed the morning trackwork session and inspected the stables.
Trainer Tony Green put Emcee Art through some light work and Eddie Yabsley was working 3 year-old unraced filly Sequalo Rose with jockey Masa Haga.
Haga has only recently returned to full-time racing after several serious injuries and will no doubt be looking forward to securing a good slate of rides on Kempsey Cup day.
Kempsey Race Club has revamped its website (www.kempseyracing.com) and created a facebook page to promote the club.
The 2012 Kempsey Cup is also backed by an extensive promotional campaign called ‘Race, Stay, Play’ which encourages visitors to the cup to take advantage of the other activities and tourist attractions in the Macleay.
The Kempsey Cup features total prize money of $20,000 and is run over a distance of 1450 metres.
The 2011 Kempsey Cup marked a welcome return to Kempsey for the cup meeting after the 2010 edition of the race was run in Port Macquarie after problems with the Warwick Park track surface. The race was won by Cuban Dancer ridden by jockey Terry Treichel
