Renold Quinlan knocked out one of Australia’s best ever boxers in Daniel Geale and won the IBO super middleweight world title but he insists it hasn’t changed him.
“I am still the same guy as I was a week ago, the only difference is that I have more confidence and belief in myself and I am more motivated than ever to continue to chase my goals,” Quinlan explained.
“I need to continue to work hard, step up and embrace the pressure of being a world champion.”
The Kempsey local will continue to train in the garage turned gym out the back of trainer’s George Ptolemy’s house.
The newly crowned world champion spars against two boys from Nambucca Mitchell Whitelaw and Mitchell Stapleton and a Wauchope local Will Sands, Ptolemy believes he improves more against them than he did in Sydney.
Quinlan acknowledges the help his sparring partners gave him in preparation for the fight.
“I would spar them a couple of times a week and it allowed me to get my timing right,” Quinlan said.
Quinlan couldn’t say a bad word about his opponent last Friday night and he wishes Geale the best.
“He is a very humble bloke, he congratulated me after the fight and I have never heard anyone say anything negative about him.”
Quinlan is still discussing his options with his manager and trainer and will make a decision on his next opponent shortly.
