The Australian Rail Track Corporation will be delivering planned rail maintenance work at Belgrave Street level crossing starting at 7am on Friday.
Work will be during daylight hours (from 7am to 6pm) and is expected to be completed by 5pm Sunday.
During this time the level crossing will be closed, with motorists asked to avoid the area.
Eden Street or Gladstone Street can be used as alternative routes and motorists should allow for additional travel time.
An ARTC spokesperson said the corporation apologised for the inconvenience caused as a result of the works and detours and thanked the community for their patience.
“The work we are doing is important to ensure the railway runs safely and reliably for trains,” the ARTC spokesperson said.
“It includes a full refurbishment of the set of points at this level crossing (points are what help trains switch from one track to another) and improvements to the drainage underneath the level crossing panels and road surface. This requires removal of the rubber level crossing panels across the tracks but also some removal of the road asphalt.”
Equipment in use will include excavators and concrete saws, with work expected to be noisy and dusty with trucks driving on and off the site during the weekend.
The ARTC said they would work to minimise any impacts as much as possible but some of it will be unavoidable.
A letterbox drop informing of the works has been completed to nearby residents and electronic traffic screens are currently up advising of the work as well.
