Part of that ongoing service review, being conducted in partnership with Bellingen Shire Council, will include examining the council‘s purchasing policies, practices and procedures.
This provides a good opportunity to gain insights into what impact the organisation’s spend has on the local economy and how the local economy can be supported through appropriate policy.
It is important where possible and financially viable, the council looks for opportunities to assist local businesses to develop in areas where they may have the ability to provide goods or services that the council requires.
In developing a considered approach to how the organisation manages its procurement of goods and services, we can ensure that procurement is undertaken fairly and equitably for the broader community.
The results of the service review project will be reported to the council. When reviewing the delivery of procurement services it is anticipated the recommendations will identify ways to improve the processes. It is through processes that support local businesses where we can, that together we can help build a strong local economy.
