Heather and Tony Hudson, who lease and manage the pool, said the defibrillator would be a welcome addition to the facility.
It comes after an incident in December when a man went into cardiac arrest while training at the pool.
Luckily for the man, there was a doctor and well-trained lifeguards on the scene, and he was able to be revived due to a sterling CPR effort.
Heather said the defibrillator would further improve the safety measures at the pool.
Sonographer at the MNCDI Kempsey, Martin Bennie, said they were happy to help out the swimming pool.
“We’re really happy that we could support the local community with this,” he said.
“It’s a really positive thing.”
According to Take Heart Australia, around 30,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest each year in Australia; on average, only nine to 10 per cent of these people survive.
In 2015, sudden cardiac arrest was one of the leading causes of death in Australia.
Defibrillation within the first few minutes of having a sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to over 70 per cent.
