Competition judge Djon Mundine spoke of the emotion portrayed in Lewis’ winning artwork, titled ‘Church After the Fire’.
Church After the Fire tells the story of children playing with charcoal at Sunday School after the Burnt Bridge Church was destroyed by fire.
Lewis, who was born with cerebral palsy and contracted polio as a young child, has said that his paintings are a reflection of his childhood memories, as well as history and culture.
Lewis has been exhibiting with Dunghutti Aboriginal Art Gallery since 2013.
His works have been acquired both locally and interstate.
