Next week we will hold the first Ordinary Council meeting for 2017. I would like to welcome local residents to come along to the meeting, or any Council meeting held throughout the year on the third Tuesday of each month.

Council meetings are one way the community can stay connected with what is happening in the Macleay Valley, and it’s also a chance to meet Councillors personally during the morning-tea break. Each year, two meetings are held in locations away from the Council Chambers to give local residents the opportunity to meet their elected Councillors, and this year we will visit Smithtown and Hat Head.
Being a Councillor involves having a good understanding of our community, where it is, and where it wants to be. Much of the work done by Council is about setting a path and Councillors play an important role in shaping our future. With a new Council recently elected, work is underway to develop the Delivery Plan which identifies Council’s priorities for this new four-year term.
The new Delivery Plan is an opportunity to look at the path already set out in our Community Strategic Plan, and to refine plans to meet new priorities. It is also a chance to look at what part Council can play in improving our community, and how best to allocate the resources we have in making the Macleay a healthier, wealthier, safe and sociable place to live. To provide the community with an opportunity to comment, the draft Delivery Plan will go on public exhibition in May along with an invitation for submissions.
To deliver on these priorities, the Operating Plan is developed which lists the programs and activities that Council undertakes during each financial year. During 2016-17, Council will invest nearly $70 million to carry out the work needed to provide essential services and facilities to the Macleay Valley.
Please take time to review Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Plan and Operating Plan, as these documents help our community understand the range of services and facilities Council delivers.
