Our hearts go out to those who faced the fire threat to their homes, and especially those whose lands were scorched or lost property and livestock.
Our community is extremely grateful to our Rural Fire Service personnel and volunteers who worked in severe weather conditions, especially the extreme heat experienced on Sunday, to battle the fires to save lives, property and livestock. Thank you to everyone involved for your tremendous efforts to protect our community and keep us safe.
It is vitally important that everyone across the Macleay Valley is prepared and ready to respond should a severe weather event hit our local area.
Having a plan in place puts us at an advantage when the time comes, instead of having to think of what to do we can just go about doing the job.
The NSW Rural Fire Service website is a great store of information and guidance on how to prepare your home and property to minimise the risk of bushfires, and what to do if bushfires are threatening your property, including who to contact in an emergency.
One of the best things about living in the Macleay is that we look out for each other and provide support when needed.
Staying vigilant by being aware of the dangers, listening to local media reports and weather warnings, keeping an eye on your neighbours, and following the advice of experts is essential in assisting RFS and Emergency Services teams support the community when natural disasters strike.
A simple action we can take to assist Emergency Services respond to calls for help is to make sure our homes, businesses and rural properties are clearly marked with an accurate property address.
