Club CEO Colan Ryan said on Monday that it “was clear from the meeting that the Club’s original housing proposal was not popular, and we won’t be progressing with the building of over 55s units”.
He also addressed the "confronting” nature of the presentation.
“We take responsibility for the confronting nature of the presentation to address misinformation in our small community.”
The club’s board of directors and Mr Ryan were joined by hundreds of community members at the presentation, held at the club for members and guests to address recent confusion over the club’s housing project proposal.
Part of the forum was also to discuss alternative ideas for the infill site on Reserve Road other than permanent housing.
Mr Ryan said there were some great ideas presented, especially for the recreation needs of families.
“We’re looking forward to working towards developing these ideas which will aim towards job creation for the town and revenue for the club,” he said.
More to come.
