New president is Damien Treloar, vice-presidents are Donna Clarke, Nathan Cooke and Christopher Anderson together with secretary/treasurer Julie Turnbull.
The show this year will be held on ANZAC Day, April 25, and April 26.
The executive are looking to revitalise the show and introduce new events. “We need to embrace the best of the past and blend in events that are going to appeal to the youth of the district,” Christopher Anderson said.
“When you think of the DNA of the Macleay Valley you immediately think of the huge amount of timber that has come out of the valley over the years, and the sport of campdrafting, with the most influential Australian stock horse stallion Abbey having been born behind the Willawarren Hotel.
“With this in mind we are re-introducing wood chopping and a campdraft to the show this year.”
The wood chopping will involve a demonstration of all the facets of the sport as well as a competition between a cross-cut saw and a chainsaw. There will also be a chain saw competition demonstrating the advances that have taken place in the industry.
A junior and juvenile campdraft will be held on afternoon of the 26th, together with a novice campdraft.
The executive are also intending to run a Young Farmers’ Challenge and a ute competition which should be a lot of fun.
If anyone is interested in running a pet show the committee would love to hear from you.
The committee will hold a meet and greet sausage sizzle and drinks at the showground this Thursday from 6-8pm for members and to thank all our volunteers and sponsors .Anyone who is interested in helping out at the show or has ideas on improving the event are also welcome to attend.
