Ms Pavey said she had been working closely with both Pacific Highway general manager Bob Higgins and Pacifico and said both were committed to getting the 20-kilometre Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads upgrade completed before Christmas.
“At the moment we are working through this less-than-ideal situation,” Mrs Pavey said.
“I have heard some workers have already left the area and headed to other projects but for those who are still here, the paving of the bridge deck still needs to be done so the workforce is still needed.
“I understand Pacifico is in discussions with affected staff.”
She said she was acutely aware of the enormous impact this had on the lives of workers and other sub-contractors.
“The Small Business Commissioner is now involved to help with cash flow and that sort of thing.”
A Roads and Maritime spokesman said the RMS and the contractor were currently working “to better understand the circumstances and likely consequences for KNF and its workers”.
He said Pacifico was working through a range of options, including securing machinery and equipment from other suppliers to ensure work could continue on activities previously carried out by KNF.
“Options for workers, including direct employment or labour hire, are also being investigated … including hiring a number of staff this week and working directly with the Administrator to address creditor issues.”
Inquiries regarding outstanding KNF debts should be directed to the Administrator, BDO Australia, on 1300 365-969.
