Councillors discussed a recommendation that expressions of interest for management of the facility as an affordable housing complex be sought, with the purpose of determining whether the homes should be retained and operated by council or disposed of.
Councillors voted to move the item to the confidential section of the meeting to allow discussion of confidential information.
Following this discussion, councillors voted in favour of deferring the decision to allow further information to be brought back at the June council meeting.
The homes were the source of considerable outrage from Kempsey residents in November 2016, when council attempted to sell them through a Port Macquarie realty. The move angered Kempsey real estate agents, who accused council of outsourcing jobs to Port Macquarie.
