On Tuesday, councillors voted that they will each receive an annual fee of $19,310.
The annual mayoral fee has been set at $42,120.
The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal determines annually the minimum and maximum amount of fees to be paid to councillors and mayors for each category of council.
It has been this council’s past practice to adopt the maximum fee determined by the Tribunal.
Kempsey Shire Council is classed as a regional rural council.
The 2017/2018 draft budget allowed for a mayoral and councillors fees totalling $215,910, which has been adopted. With the reduction in the number of councils from 152 to 128 the estimated maximum saving in councillor fees in NSW is approximately $2.5 million
