Hitchhiker allegedly steals $700 from 76-year-old pensioner in Kempsey

Police are searching for a woman they believe can help with their inquiries after an incident on Wednesday, May 10, where a 76-year-old pensioner gave a hitchhiker a lift, only to have her allegedly steal $700 from him.

That day, the 76-year-old Kempsey man withdrew a sum of money from a bank before going to Woolworths at midday.

When leaving the shops, a woman allegedly asked the man for a lift to a location in Kempsey.

Once in the vehicle, the woman then requested to be dropped to a different location.

The man eventually dropped her at the Shell petrol station on Smith St.

Shortly after the man realised that he was missing $700 from his wallet and reported the incident to Kempsey police.

Police are searching for a woman of Aboriginal appearance, about five foot tall and with a thin build and short black hair.

She was wearing black leggings and a white hoodie.
