The signing, held at Council Chambers and accompanied by a staff morning tea, is a national initiative of the Australian Road Safety Foundation and is Australia’s largest community-based road safety campaign, aimed at reducing road fatalities.
The event urges all road users to take the road safety pledge as a commitment to themselves, their family and their friends, particularly on Fatality Free Friday.
Making people more aware (of road safety) is really important.
- Council community safety officer Marilyn Breen
Kempsey Shire Council’s community safety officer Marilyn Breen said with cars a necessity for travelling to and from places in regional towns such as Kempsey, council is proud to be taking part in the initiative to help raise awareness and improve safety on our roads.
“While the event is called Fatality Free Friday - the ultimate aim is for long-term community change,” she said.
