It is the final round of the IRB season with clubs and competitors out to be crowned the NSW champions.
South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club will be competing in the event for the first time this season and club president Rod McDonagh said he is excited to have a team on the start line at the event they are hosting.
“It’s a first time in a little while we have a team and they’ve been training over the last couple of months so they should go well,” Rod McDonagh said.
“The enthusiasm of our club members particularly when we host carnivals is amazing and we’ve got a good track record. It brings the whole club together and also builds community support which is great for our small town.”
South West Rocks will be represented by an Open Male team.
There will be more than 310 competitors heading to South West Rocks from 25 different surf clubs and McDonagh said it brings a boost to the whole community.
“There are hundreds of competitors and also coaches, supporters and parents who will all be staying in the region,” he said.
“They all need food, fuel, accommodation and other things which will help the local economy during a slower time of the year.”
South West Rocks SLSC is quickly gaining an excellent reputation for hosting major surf sport events having been the home of the NSW Country Championships for the last two seasons and previously hosting the State IRB Championships in 2014.
It brings the whole club together and also builds community support.

“Our beach is perfect for the event, we have a flat beach and generally have a good sized swell which makes for great racing,” McDonagh said.
“We have a good reputation, a great community and accommodation.”
Racing is set to kick off at 9am on Saturday July 1 and 10am on Saturday July 2 at the main beach.
