Oram and Kirkness had been battling each other in the qualifiers throughout the weekend and Oram held onto the lead for the opening nine laps of the final.
Unfortunately for Oram, the former Frederickton resident, was forced to settle with second position after Kirkness overtook him on the final lap and held on for victory.
Boyd Hollis rounded out the top three.
There was three rounds with two heats in each round held as qualifying for the Akubra Classic final.
Along with the top three Marty McNamara, Nathan Boland, James Chapman, James Parsons, Bailey Davis, Nicholas Lahey, Carew Dickinson, Jordan Dall and Brody Nowlan reached the final.
The men’s sidecar event was claimed by Adam and Graham Liebke with Daryl Woodhead and Shaun Fuller finishing in second while Mark and Wayne O’Meley finished in third place.
In the Pro 450 final, McNamara claimed first while Akubra Classic champion Kirkness finished in second with Brody Nowlan grabbing third place.
Macleay District Motor Cycle Club president Jamie Oram was pleased with the event and felt relieved as the Akubra Classic went ahead on the weekend with only light drizzle on Sunday morning delaying the event for a couple of hours.
“Everything ran smoothly, there was a bit of a delay and a couple of accidents but everyone seems okay which is wonderful,” Jamie Oram said.
“It was a great couple of days of racing with some quality competitors on display.”
The Akubra Classic had been postponed twice this year due to the weather conditions.
The next event held by the club at Greenhill Speedway will be the NSW Dirt Track titles in September.
“It isn’t the first time we have held the titles and it is because we have one of the best tracks in Australia,” Oram said.
“It will be a great event attracting the states best.”
