This local charity raises funds to help kids living with Type 1 Diabetes around the Macleay Valley by purchasing insulin pumps, continual glucose monitors, conduct camps and trips away while providing support and awareness to the children and their families. The Magpies are very proud of their association with the group and hope that this year is just as successful as it has been since its inception and the community gets behind the day once again and supports the cause.
The Magpies will take on the Comboyne Tigers this year which will be their first time being involved in the charity game. The Magpies chose to play the Tigers this year as it is always a good tough game and one that the spectators will enjoy watching plus the Tigers are another Hastings League team that have been happy to support the day and help make it a success. The Magpies will once again forgo their usual black and white strip for the game and will run out in their Macleay Valley Coast Diabetes Group jerseys and shorts that were designed specifically for this game.
Gates open early with the Smithtown Junior Rugby League games commencing from 9.30am. The Smithtown JRLFC under 10’s, 12’s and 13’s will all feature on the day and there will be some great junior talent on show. The main game will then kick off at 2.30pm between the Magpies and the Tigers. There will be the MVCDG Marquee providing information, merchandise, cupcakes, guessing competition and colour Hair spraying and face painting for the kids. There will also be BBQ and canteen facilities along with the Bar opening from 1pm.
There is plenty of fun planned for all the family with plenty of local junior and senior rugby league on display plus the chance to support a great local charity.
The after game function will then take place back at the Magpies major sponsor, the Heritage Hotel of Gladstone where you can make a night of it. There will be plenty of raffle prizes and an auction to help raise funds for the charity plus a DJ to dance the night away.
There are some great auction items that have been so generously donated by some very generous people and bound to be something of interest for everyone.
The Magpies and the MVCDG would like to say a big thank you to all the local businesses and those that donated prizes. It’s so greatly appreciated and the day and night couldn’t go ahead or be the success that it is without them all.
Get your family and friends together and make a day and night of it. The Lower Macleay Magpies and the Macleay Valley Coast Diabetes Group invite you all down to the Smithtown Oval this Saturday to have a great day and help raise funds for this amazing local charity supporting children living with Type 1 Diabetes.
