An existing dwelling and shed on the site will be knocked down to make way for the new gym facility, which will offer individual training and classes on a set timetable.
At its ordinary meeting on Tuesday, Kempsey Shire Council granted consent to the development application.
Business owners Kea Pereira and Tia Martin are ecstatic to see the project approved.
“We need the central location for the growth of our business,” Mr Pereira said.
The business, which has been offering CrossFit and pilates classes, as well as personal training at the Squash Centre in South Kempsey since 2013, requires more space so it can run two different activities at the same time.
“Troy and Shannon (from the squash centre) have been great,” Ms Martin said.
“But I suppose being out at South Kempsey it’s a bit hard to get out there.
“At the moment if we have a class on, we can’t run anything else at the same time, including individual training. We’ll have extra room so we can run two classes simultaneously and individuals can train at the same time as well. We’ll also be starting junior CrossFit classes at the new location. Some people say CrossFit causes injuries, but it doesn't because we can tailor it to anyone.”
Mr Pereira said the business will look to increase its range of services further if it continues to grow.
“We’re just going to be patient,” he said.
Ms Martin says growing a business in Kempsey has been tumultuous but rewarding.
“There has been ups and downs, but I think there is a great opportunity in Kempsey within the health and fitness sector,” she said.
“CrossFit is particularly popular, our members love it.”
Ms Martin is hopeful construction will be complete by the end of the year.
“We’d like to thank our members, who have been with us for so long, and we’re looking forward to the future.”
