The group’s latest production, titled A Tribute to Gilbert and Sullivan, will be performed at the Bandbox Theatre, Sea Street, Kempsey on August 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27.
The show chronicles all 14 of the collaborations that W.S.Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan penned during their partnership between 1871 to 1896.
These include The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Gondoliers and Trial By Jury. Gilbert wrote the witty scripts while Sullivan, a highly regarded classical composer in his own right, provided the lively music.
This production will showcase popular songs from most of the shows, with a locally written narration to guide audiences through the history of the early performances.
To add to the local flavour, there will be references to the Singers past G&S productions, providing some great memories for those many long term supporters of the society.
The Macleay Valley Choristers, under the expert tutelage of Christine Wells, have been practising hard to provide the chorus for the show.
Several of the solo performers will be well known to audiences, along with some young up and coming talent.
Director Greg Taylor, who presented both H.M.S. Pinafore (2013) and Cosi (2015) for the Singers, is upbeat about the current production.
“We have a great concept here and I am confident that we will be strongly supported by patrons during our season in August,” Mr Taylor said.
