To receive this award a Lifeguard must demonstrate sustained excellence in all aspects of beach management, and this is something that Hawkins has certainly done.
A popular member of the team, Timica proved indispensable throughout the 2016/17 season as she used all of her experience and leadership skills to mentor the next generation of Lifeguards.
This is an important role that ensures those coming through are able to seamlessly fit into the organisation and develop a culture to help keep visitors and locals safe at the area’s beautiful beaches.
Additionally she helped ensure the beaches were always protected by providing support to the supervisor in developing shift rosters, a sometimes thankless, but always vital role. A season highlight was her selection as one of the key Lifeguards assigned to provide services to the Seventh Day Adventist event held in the area. With over 10,000 visitors, this was a significant job and meant extra vigilance was required during what proved an exceptionally busy period.
ALS Northern Coordinator Scott McCartney said Timica’s recognition was richly deserved.
“Timica is an extremely professional employee of the ALS,” Mr McCartney said.
“She is a strong communicator both with the public and her fellow Lifeguards and is very well respected.
“It’s been fantastic to see her use her experience and knowledge to mentor the younger Lifeguards and I am sure they have benefited by their time working with her.”
Timica Hawkins is now eligible for the overall 2017 NSW Lifeguard of the Year Award. A selection panel will nominate finalists with the winner being announced during the annual Awards of Excellence ceremony at Sydney’s iconic Hilton Hotel next month.
