NPWS area manager Alex Wyatt said this burn is part of an ongoing program to reduce bushfire fuel levels and risks to properties from potential bushfires around Crescent Head and to maintain biodiversity.

“During the burn residents may experience periods of smoke and ash fall,” Ms Wyatt said.

“The risk to properties during this burn is considered low however, people are reminded to ensure their property is well prepared and take precautions:

· Follow instructions from firefighting personnel during the burn operations.

· Ensure that leaf litter is removed from gutters.

· Ensure pets are secure within your property in an area that provides protection for them.

· Close all windows and remove washing from clothes lines.

· Stay well clear of fire operations during the burn.

People with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors.

This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with the assistance of the NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.

This hazard reduction burn is part of the NSW Government’s $76 million package over six years to boost bushfire preparedness and double hazard reduction in the Sate’s national parks, where conditions allow.
