Kempsey looked the more dangerous side for large parts of the game but a staggered defensive line on a kick chase and the inability to defuse the situation after a charge down led to a Westlawn winger grabbing a double.

Lemar Kelly barged his way over for Kempsey to get his team within six points with five minutes remaining but despite their best efforts in their last attacking set, they came up short of a heroic comeback.

Coach Sam Cass was proud of the efforts of the boys, who were playing their second match in two days and also had competitors partake in an athletics carnival three days earlier.

“The boys have done terrific to even make it this far to start with,” Cass said.

“If we had a fresh side I believe we would have beat them.”

Kempsey had defeated the primary schools from Aldavilla, Crescent Head, Hastings, Woolgoolga and Frank Partridge.
