The donation was presented to the Kempsey’s Centenary of Rail celebrations coordinator Garry Munday from Wauchope’s Centenary of Rail organiser Jeanette Rainbow.
Ms Rainbow organised Wauchope’s celebrations two years ago and she was presented with $5835 from the chair of the Taree Centenary Committee Barry Seghers, who received a $30,000 government grant for Taree’s centenary celebrations in 2013.
The funds will help with the costs of the three days of festive events planned.
A luncheon will be held at Kempsey Macleay RSL Club on Saturday November 25 for current and former railway workers and their friends while the excitement of riding a Paterson’s Railmotor will be available on the Sunday with trips to Telegraph Point and Eungai Creek to be organised closer to the date.
The Railmotor rides will be available for everyone with tickets to be available shortly.
The celebrations will come to a conclusion on the Monday with the the unveiling of a plaque at the Kempsey train station and a morning tea will be held.
“There is plenty of fun to be had by everyone over the weekend,” Mr Munday said.
“The railway is an important piece of Kempsey’s history and the North Coast Line was revolutionary for industries and they succeeded for a long time because of the railway.”
Vintage cars will be on display on the Monday and there will also be a flyover at the train station.
