One of the quiet achievers in our valley is our libraries. More than 10,000 registered members of all ages have access to a free social outlet and a source of enjoyment from the selection of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and digital information available at the libraries.
To celebrate Children’s Book Week a special Storytime session will be at Kempsey Library this Friday at 10.30am. The 2017 theme Escape to Everywhere should stir the imagination of our youngsters.
Book Week has been celebrated in libraries and schools for 72 years, making it the longest running children’s festival in Australia.
Annual Book Week celebrations are a wonderful way of showing children that learning good reading skills mixed with a thirst for knowledge can also be great fun.
Children aged three years and older are invited to Kempsey Library for the morning’s activities, which include listening to the stories from books nominated for Book Week awards, singing, and a craft session. Contact Kempsey Library on 6566 3200.
Head to Head Walk Run
This Sunday is the fifth Head to Head Walk Run at Crescent Head. Local charity Baylin’s Gift will be the beneficiary of money raised through the event.
Baylin’s Gift is a community organisation committed to educating and supporting young people in our valley about mental health, especially depression, suicide awareness and LGBTI issues.
The foundation works with young people to build resilience and good mental health wellbeing, and promote acceptance and diversity for all.
The annual fun day is a great way to enjoy one of our valley’s best beaches and Crescent Head Lions Club members and local volunteers will be there to support participants in this great community fundraiser.
Online registrations are essential at: http://headtoheadwalkrun.org.au/register-here and close at midnight on Wednesday, August 23.
