Students, siblings, parents and teachers dressed as their favourite fictional characters relating to the theme of ‘escape to everywhere.’
The Book Week event aims to engage the children with literature and encourages them to be enthusiastic about reading, ultimately, nurturing a literate, educated and creative society.
Principal Melissa Turner said the day allows the children to live out the stories that they engage with and build a sense of community.
“We’re also hoping to encourage the children to develop a love of learning and books, and to read with those who are important in their world,” Mrs Turner said.
With fostering a close-knit local community in mind, the school invited a number of local preschools and kindergartens to join in the parade, including Good Start Early Learning, Kempsey Kindy, River Street Early Learning, The Kindergarten, Kempsey Children’s Services and The Cubbyhouse.
