Do you love nothing more than spending the weekends in the garden?
Whether it’s a patch, plot or acre that you like to prune solo or with your community, this competition is for you.
In partnership with the Australian City Farms and Community Gardens Network (ACFCGN), the Yellow Pages and White Pages is celebrating the nation’s love for gardening in a move that will see the Kempsey 2017/18 directory cover used to showcase the area’s gardening king or queen.
From now until midnight 21st September, the competition to find Kempsey’s garden-loving cover star or stars is running.
By simply sharing an image of your beloved garden and telling us your best gardening tip, you will be one step closer to being crowned Kempsey’s Garden Great.
Since every garden is special, the judges are looking for gardens of all shapes, sizes, colour, and of course accompanying stories.
The best entrant will be judged on the creativity of their garden and submitted gardening tip by a panel of judges from the Yellow Pages, White Pages and the ACFCGN.
Yellow Pages spokesperson, Erin Williamson gardens are a wonderfully social place, where knowledge and laughs are shared, and games are played.
“Through this competition, we are looking to celebrate gardening and all its associated health and happiness benefits. If you have a green thumb or know someone who does, we want to hear from you,” Ms Williamson said.
The ACFCGN connects communities through many community garden and urban agriculture initiatives. ACFCGN New South Wales representative, Chris Brown is very passionate about advocating on behalf of community gardeners, and through the partnership with the Yellow Pages and White Pages, the 2017/18 directories will be used to profile the growth of community gardening across Australia.
“As a volunteer network, we really rely on our communities, our members and the support of organisations like the Yellow Pages and White Pages to function to full strength,” Mr Brown said.
“People love to garden and there are so many benefits including physical and mental health. Not only do gardens make communities healthier, but also more sustainable, more connected and of course, more beautiful too.”
“Community gardens bring people of all ages and nationalities together to not only grow organic produce but also to engage, teach and nourish all who visit.
I’m really looking forward to seeing some of the wonderful gardens out there on the covers of this year’s directories.
I encourage everyone to enter their gardens and share with the country their garden’s story” Mr Brown said.
The Kempsey Yellow Pages and White Pages directories are due for distribution from Saturday 3rd February,2018.
