Browning entered the final day of racing on Sunday with work to do as he sat in second position and two minutes and 30 seconds behind Kempsey’s Mat Huxley.
Browning finished in fourth position out of the 36 drivers in the qualifying on Saturday morning and maintained the same place after the top 10 shootout.
He completed four laps on Saturday afternoon where he managed to overtake two competitors.
“It became evident after the opening day that dust would be a problem for racing,” Browning said.
“It happens on all of the dry tracks and it makes it impossible to see a car behind you unless they are very close.”
Sunday action began with six laps of the main section, with buggies beginning racing at 20 second intervals.
The slower cars proved an issue for Browning and Huxley but the former’s experience showed as he weaved through the traffic.
“We were right behind Huxley and he allowed us to pass, but we still trailed him by more than two minutes,” Browning said.
“He got caught behind the buggies while we managed to get passed them.”
Browning had an eight minute cushion on Huxley after the six laps and he felt comfortable heading into the final event.
He held on for the victory but unfortunately for Huxley he did not finish the final event due to an accident.
