The blaze, which has already burnt out 1184 ha of bush land around Clybucca, is currently inaccessible to fire trucks because of the surrounding wetland it is burning through.
However, NSW Rural Fire Service said conditions have eased since yesterday and firefighters continue to work to bring the fire under control.
The status of the fire has downgraded from ‘out of control’ to ‘being controlled’.
Backburning will be undertaken in order to contain the fire so residents of Fishermans Reach, Stuarts Point and South West Rocks may notice an increase of smoke and fire activity while this is being conducted.
Over 80 firefighters from NSW Rural Fire Service, National Parks & Wildlife Service and Fire & Rescue NSW supported by three fixed wing aircraft and two helicopters worked in windy conditions to contain the blaze yesterday.
Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokesman Lachlann Ison said fire investigators and police are currently looking into the cause of the fire.
Crews will take advantage of cooler conditions in the night to consolidate existing containment lines, continue back-burning and deal with any potential breakouts that might occur.
