It has since been released on a number of Slim’s trucking albums, most recently being the ‘Prime Movers’ album.
However there was never an official music clip made from the song.
“Slim released over 100 albums and if you averaged out 10 songs per album, that’s a 1,000 songs. It would have been pretty hard to make a music video for all of them,” Brent Langley, whom came up with the idea to make the video clip, said.
“Everybody has a favourite song of Slim’s. Mine would have to be Dieseline Dreams.
“It is such a great story of a boy jumping in the truck with his Dad for the first time as they head off on a long trip. A lot of people can relate to it,” Langley said.
The song was penned by one of Australia’s most respected song writers in Graeme Connors.
“Graeme Connors wrote some great songs for Slim,” Langley said.
When deciding to go ahead with the idea of making the music video, Langley first contacted Slim’s widow Joy McKean.
She was very supportive of the idea but first insisted to contact Graeme Connors management for approval of the lyrics to be used for the purpose of a music video.
From there it has been an exhaustive process to have both publishing and licensing agreements exchanged.
“I can understand that because Universal/EMI hold Slim’s catalogue in such high regard,” Langley said.
Mr Langley then sought the professional services of Gosford based Film company “The Filmery” to make the video clip.
The music clip was shot around Singleton in the hunter valley region of New South Wales. Birthplace of Slim’s widow Joy McKean.
Josh Favaloro from The Filmery directed the music video on the day. But it was Duncan Toombs that sounded out father and son Matt and Bailey Manning to play the part of father and son embarking on their first journey together up to far north Queensland.
Matt Manning is a talented musician in his own right and also a truck driver so it was second nature for him.
“You could not have scripted it better to have Matt and his boy Bailey play the part. They were both incredible.
“Duncan and Matt have known each other for a long time and Duncan knew straight away that he was best to play the part.
“And Bailey was incredible... For a five year old boy to go through a whole day of filming in warm conditions and not complain once. He did everything that was asked of him,” Langley said.
The film clip of Dieseline Dreams was released on Thursday August 10 and has since been broadcast on Foxtel’s Country Music Channel.
