The award recognises improvements in best practice service delivery by council local water utilities in New South Wales.
Council’s manager of water process Bala Vigneswaran accepted the award on behalf of council at the 2017 Water Management Conference in Dubbo this September.
Finalists and winners of the Award were determined following an assessment of performance data from the annual NSW Water Supply and Sewerage Performance Monitoring Report over the last ten years.
Council’s acting director of operations Robert Scott said it is encouraging to know that the improvements to water and sewer operations have been noticed.
“It reflects on the dedicated staff that we have in water and sewer teams at council who deliver the service to the community as well as the teams that support and enable this service across the board.”
The award is named after the late Sam Samra - a highly regarded public servant who was instrumental in a range of reforms that contributed to marked improvements in the performance of local water utilities in regional NSW
“Mr Samra recognised the unique challenges facing council water utilities in regional NSW,” Mr Scott said.
“Over the years, he provided considerable advice and guidance to Kempsey Shire Council. He was particularly supportive in helping council successfully secure a $6.6m grant to sewer Stuarts Point.”
The Award is co-sponsored by Local Government NSW, the NSW Water Directorate and the Department of Primary Industries - Water.
