On what could be described as an ideal weekend the Seabreeze Beach Hotel Fishing Club held its most recent fishing competition on September 2 and 3. There were 88 entrants for the competition and 98 kg of fish was presented to the Weigh Master. There was quite a variety of species caught from inside (beach, rock and estuary) and from outside (deep sea).

Although there were no monsters in the haul the fish weighed-in were of generally good quality size wise.
Although not every section of the competition had a winner all nominated species were accounted for to varying degrees. In the inside section, the standouts on the results sheet illustrate a little of what the composition of our Club is like with one of our “Elders”, Pat Halverson, taking out two prizes those being largest Mulloway at 7.045 kg and Senior Angler of the Month with 8 species. At the other end of the spectrum was “Tenunda” Amahlia Falzon who was also a dual winner with a 400 gm Bream and Junior Angler of the Month.
The other inside winners were:
Bream – senior – Bob Shakespeare, 620 gm; lady – Jo Ford, 690 gm.
Dusky Flathead – senior – Noel Walsh, 1.645 kg; lady – Heather Osborne, 2.105 kg.
Tailor – senior – Bob Nips, 1.250 kg.
Despite the quite ideal conditions for outside fishing, with approachable bars, calm seas and a making moon, the consensus was that there was plenty of water between the fish. The regular, keen, outside fisho’s featured on the results sheet:
Pearl Perch – senior – Geoff Gardiner, 835 gm.
Snapper – senior – Graham Willis, 1.630 kg; lady – Raelee Riddel, 1.020 kg; junior – Daniel
Lewis, 2.195 kg.
Venus Tusk Fish – senior – Jeff Bryant, 2.100 kg
Largest Other – Mulloway – Greg Allen, 6.040 kg
Angler of the Month – senior – Greg Allen with 7 species and junior Angler of the Month was Daniel Lewis with 1 specie.
A common feature with all the above outside fisho’s is that they are all getting a bit salty, the exception to this age bracket was junior boy Daniel Lewis who did okay with a 2.195 kg Snapper and was also named Junior Angler of the Month.
All in all, the Fathers’ Day weekend fishing competition was certainly a success culminating in a well-attended weigh-in, barbecue and presentation at the Seabreeze Beach Hotel. All bodes well for the next competition which will be on the weekend September 30 and October 1.
