The 17-year-old represented Kempsey High School at the Combined High Schools competition and finished in third place for a bronze medal.

Cooper competes in tournaments across the state and recently represented Zone 14 in 7-a-side at Dubbo.

The Kempsey Macleay RSL presented Lachlan with a trophy and a $100 gift voucher to spend at their restaurant.

A sportsperson of the year will be decided upon in January 2018 with an additional voucher of $500 for the restaurant awarded to the winner.

A panel of judges from the Macleay Argus will determine the monthly and year winners.

Nominations need to be submitted by the first day of the following month.
