Twenty Four teams entered the event, which consisted of four games over the two days, with bowlers from up and down the coast playing for the overall prizemoney on offer.
Saturday Morning brought heavy dark clouds over the bowling greens before the event start. A deluge half an hour before the starting time caused a delay owing to the flooding of the greens.
Organisers reduced the number of ends per game to eighteen and the event finally commenced after an hours wait for the greens to dry. Team “H” and Team “S” finished the first game with a win and thirteen ends giving them an overall total of thirty three points.
After a lunch break the teams went out for their second game for the day under a grey sky with a hint of blue. The rain held off and after some strong competition Team “H” finished the day as event leader. Paul Holden (Kempsey Heights) skipped the team to a three point overall lead, finishing on sixty six points with Team “Z” (Paul Moon) overall second on sixty three.
Sunday Morning produced overcast but dry conditions for the commencement of Game three. After a few ends of play however, a short shower of rain gave another halt to the tournament. The morning game finished without any further delays and once the cards were calculated, the overall leaders had changed. Team “X” (skip – Craig Donaldson) fought hard to defeat their opposition and with the points awarded became the leaders .
A Roast Beef and baked veggies lunch energised the teams ready for the final game. This started off in bright sunshine but the players had to contend with yet another weather condition, wind.
Adjusting and readjusting were the strategies as the conditions continued to change. The game and tournament finished without any further disruptions.
After all teams handed their scorecards in, the results were tallied and the presentations made.
The winners of the tournament with 4 game wins plus 44 ends making a total of 144 points were Team “X” – Dave Scrivener, Barry Smith, Greg Brims, and Craig Donaldson, Second with three game wins plus 40 ends, a total of 100 points Team “W” – Michael Judd, Greg Powick, Richard Dickson and Chris Hazlewood
A tie between Teams “M” and “O” both on three game wins plus 39 ends, a total of 99 points were third.
Team “M” – Trevor Lee, Richard Chabros, Trevor Gittoes and Don Forrest.
Team “O” – Jim Hater, Neil Swain, John Kay and Mick King.
Fifth place with three game wins plus 38 ends, a total of 98 points Team “A” – Claude Hayes, Michael Taylor, Matt Kirkman and Peter Stockham.
The Lucky Card for the last Game went to Team “H” Roger Gill, Brett Stephens, Jarrod Wilson and Paul Holden.
President of the Kempsey Macleay RSL Mens Bowling Club, Ron Kennedy thanked the Major Sponsor – David Dyet, who has sponsored the KALITE event for the last 17 years. David was unable to be present for the event this year so the presentations were made by Nick Dyet.
A good weekend was had by all, thanks to the Bowling Club’s bowls coordinator, greenkeeper, bar staff, kitchen staff, the bowls committee and members, and the competing team members.
