To advance to compete against Australia’s best, Carson will need to finish in the top three in either event and his mother said he has the confidence to succeed.
“Last year he had a knee injury at the state competition and didn’t jump at his best,” Carson’s mother Tiana Adamson said.
“He has been training hard for 10 months and he’s been competing well, he has a good head on his shoulders.”
Carson earned his position at the state finals after progressing through his school, NCIS and CIS competitions in the top two positions.
The 12-year-old earned first place in long jump and high jump at NCIS and he broke a 16-year-old record in the long jump event.
Carson trains three times a week at Scotts Head under his coach Richie Donovan, who is a national sports coach.
The year six student has been enjoying athletics and he has the full support of his mother.
“As long as he’s happy to keep training, we are happy to keep spending money and driving him around,” Tiana said.
Carson will compete at Sydney on Wednesday October 18 and Thursday October 19.
