The win advances the 12-year-old to the international stage at the Pacific School Games held in Adelaide in early December after propelling to a 5m and 17cm jump.
Carson entered the tournament with high expectations on himself and he delivered when it counted the most.
“I didn't think I was jumping my best and I knew I had to improve my jumping when I was in the top eight,” Carson told the Argus.
However, Carson dug deep on his second last jump to put himself into first place with his winning leap.
“It felt good coming first at all schools and winning gold. I was very proud, I had won a gold medal and couldn't stop smiling,” Carson said.
The year six student bested 38 competitors and overcame a setback earlier in the day to win the event.
Carson also had hopes of securing a medal in the high jump event but finished in 12th position.
“He was disappointed after his finish in the high jump and wasn’t feeling very confident,” Tiana said.
“We are very proud of him for his results in both events and the way he bounced back is credit to his character.”
The Pacific School Games will be Carson’s largest competition but he still plans on adding another medal to his collection.
“It would be amazing to win a medal but I will be happy to be in the top eight,” he said.
“I can't wait to represent my school and town. I'm looking forward to being on the NSW team and wearing the uniform.”
The year six student has big plans for the future and holds a desire to compete for Australia at the highest level.
“I want to be the best and represent Australia. I love being an athlete and winning,” Carson said.
“I love flying like a bird, breaking records and winning.
“I want to qualify for the next commonwealth games.”
