This is the sixth time he has earned the title and he seems ‘untouchable’ in that position.
The other A graders, Steve Tarbox, Gunter Bohles and Colin Catlin, ‘turned up’ on the night but Adi repelled any attacks they threw at him, and the attacks were substantial thus making his victory all the more impressive. Steve Tarbox also impressed with the runner up title.
In the B grade, Graeme Carrad had enough on the night to edge out Barbara Morley for the title.
Graeme’s victory over Barbara early in the evening was the telling factor as both were able to defeat the other B grade contenders.
Seasoned players like John Mundy, Floyd Hoelzl, Miho Ballard and David Howard troubled the eventual title holders to make the night one of great tension and excitement.
Attention now turns to the determination of the doubles champs this coming week with the promise of close games as the pairing of players of varied capabilities through a random draw ‘levels the playing field’ and makes for a very close competition.
