A draw from a hat combines the club’s A grade players with a B grader to ‘level the playing field’ and makes for a series of close matches. This was reflected in many matches requiring five games to determine a winning combination. Sadly, Adi Vinaikosol and Colin Catlin were unable to participate due to work commitments and injury respectively.
At play’s end, Steve and Miho were undefeated and one feels their match against David Howard and Gunter Bohles was a watershed moment.
They could so easily have capitulated when down two games to one but the final score line of 11-6, 9-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-9 epitomises the focus and tenacity they were able to draw upon when in a corner.
What effect the loss had on David and Gunter is left to speculation but after that battle, Barbara Morley and Graeme Carrad were able to win their match against them to take out the runner up trophy. David Miller and John Mundy can rightly feel robbed after playing two five game matches only to come away without a win. It wasn’t for lack of effort and skill.
With the competitions over for the year it will be back to business as normal with Thursday evenings being a time for practice and it will be a great opportunity to welcome any new players who might fancy a go at this fun activity. See the Facebook page or web site for contact details.
