Minister for Roads and member for Oxley Melinda Pavey and member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker were on hand in the Nulla Nulla Gallery to officially open the display.
“I just love Milo – love it,” Mrs Pavey said.
“I grew up on it.
“It made me the big girl that I am today.
“It is a beautiful product and I associate it with my netball playing years.
“I associate it with my kids growing up on it.
“It is the iconic food product that is now a global success story.
“It is one of the few, if not the only export product that is doing really well.
“To see it doing well in countries like Malaysia, through Asia, and South America.
“I think the world is its oyster because it really is a beautiful product.”
Mr Hartsuyker said he was another ‘milo kid’.
“I love the crunchy bits on top,” he said.
“Other countries around the world don’t necessarily have the crunchy bits, they have it totally dissolved.
“It’s a great local product developed here in the Macleay Valley.
“The Nestle factory here is a great local employer and that’s really important to have a factory processing local milk products, and producing jobs and exports for our region.
“It’s great news all round.”
“The story of MILO – a Legendary Favourite” brings the tale of Milo to life.
Invented and developed in the early 1930s by Thomas Mayne, Milo was officially launched at the Royal Easter Show in 1934.
The exhibition unravels an 80 year history of Milo, revealing the changing face of the factory situated on the Macleay River at Smithtown, the production and agricultural history and the marketing genius of how Milo is recognised by millions of people worldwide as an iconic Australian product and brand.
The display includes sporting and other memorabilia, photographs, technical equipment, packaging, posters, historical video footage and examples of Nestle’s involvement and support of many community projects and their support of sport.
Go along, enjoy a nostalgic journey and a free sample of this iconic Australian beverage.
“The story of Milo- a legendary favourite” runs until Sunday, January 7.
