A family fun day was held at Kempsey Station with music, displays, food and of course – a train ride. A reunion luncheon was held on Saturday with the weekend drawing to a close with morning tea and the cutting of the centenary cake on Monday.
Community member Lorna Jennaway submitted the following letter to the editor:
“As just one of the many hundreds of people who thoroughly enjoyed the most wonderful weekend provided for us by those who initiated, planned, organised, publicised and executed the amazing Kempsey Railway Centenary in our home town, I would like to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU!”
“Such an occasion would be absolutely unique in NSW, and the enthusiasm of everyone was expressed in so many ways – children and families participating everywhere, the train trips, the 1917 dress-ups, local groups in uniform, the Red Cross, the stalls, the provision of meals, morning teas etc.
“The utmost praises should be given to you all. May it help us to feel proud of the special town we live in, and to look positively towards its future.”
