To celebrate the Creative Ageing Festival the centre in South Kempsey will host a line dancing/chair-line dancing performance and participation on Tuesday, April 3 from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Jean Lovenfosse and Shirley Barnes from Kempsey Line Dancing will host the session.
Participants can learn to line dance in the typical manner but there will also be chair-line dancing, which caters for elderly people whose movement is restricted, enabling them to be involved by dancing while seated.
The second great event geared towards Seniors’ week and the Creative Ageing Festival is to be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 9.30am to 11.30am.
It will feature a Ukulele performance and Singalong.
Local stalwart and talented ukulele player Brian Irvine and long-term aged care worker Kate Adamson will run the interactive event.
Guests will be given a songbook and percussion instruments and encouraged to sing-along.
The instruments are being borrowed from local schools.
School kids may also be on hand to assist their elders, with the Slim Dusty Centre contacting local schools to see if any of the children would like to attend.
Manager of the Slim Dusty Centre Michele Atkinson extended a warm invitation to seniors and anyone else who would like to be involved in the Creative Ageing Festival.
“it should be great,” she said.
“We’re hoping that some of the nursing homes will take it up.
“We do get some of the nursing homes visit throughout the year when they wish to offer their residents something different.
Both events cost $10 per person, which includes a Devonshire morning tea with scones, jam and cream.
