Kempsey Shire Council supports the Save Our Recycling Campaign. The residents of the Macleay Valley already do their bit by recycling household products, but we need to ensure your efforts don’t go to waste. This campaign urges the state to return the waste levy into waste minimisation, recycling and resource recovery. In 2017-18 we paid $140,000 to the state as waste levy, and only 18 per cent of those funds were re-invested in recycling and waste management. Re-investment will allow NSW to develop its own onshore processing plant.

Apart from recycling, council’s focus for 2019 will be much closer to home. Work will continue on the transformation program, particularly in the areas of governance, new operating systems and efficiencies. These process improvements and the renewed focus on engagement will build a more customer-focused approach. This year millions of dollars will be invested on grant-funded infrastructure improvements. The works program will also see existing roads, bridges and footpaths be maintained and improved. I’m conscious of the need to bring our community together. I want to see us improve our relationships and support systems. I’d love to see us build on the level of interaction and engagement and create positive solutions and practical projects we and the community can deliver. I’m looking forward to all the challenges and successes 2019 will bring.
