Kempsey Fire and Rescue extinguished a truck trailer fire at the Pacific Highway in Frederickton in the early hours of this morning.

Kempsey Fire and Rescue received a call at 4.45am and arrived on scene within 10-minutes.
Acting Station Commander Phil Dowling observed the rear axle B-trailer of B-double was on fire but fortunately the truck driver was able to detach the A-trailer and drive it down the road to safety.

The Kempsey Fire and Rescue crew, aided by Kempsey Rural Fire Service and Port Macquarie HAZMAT Unit, were equipped with breathing apparatuses and quickly brought the blaze under control and it was extinguished within an hour.
Southbound traffic was diverted throughout the process to avoid the smoke hazard.
One southbound lane was reopened after 8.30am and the diversion via Macleay Valley Way has been lifted.
The cause of the blaze is unknown.
